Dental Benefits Expire Soon
With the year coming to an end, now is the perfect time to review your remaining dental insurance benefits before time runs out! Here are 5 reasons you should use your dental benefits before they run out.
1. Premiums
If you are paying for dental benefits, you should be taking advantage of them! This sounds simple, but there are many people that do not use their annual benefits. Most insurance provide 2 standard exams and cleaning every year. Start with that! Keeping a close eye on your dental health by committing to your biannual cleanings will help ensure good dental health and prevent costly treatments in the future.
2. Deductibles
The deductible is the amount of money that your pay out of pocket before your benefits begin to take effect. The fee varies between insurance companies and could be higher if you prefer to see a dentist that is out of network. When your plan rolls over (usually on January 1), you are required to pay your deductible again to start taking advantage of your benefits.
3. Yearly Maximums
Your dental plan gives you a maximum of what can be spent on your dental care on an annual basis. This amount varies between insurance carriers and plans. On average it is around $1000 per person each year. These maximums are typically reset at the start of the calendar year (January 1), and any unused benefits will be forfeited.
4. Fee Increases
Another reason to use your benefits now is because it is always possible that fees will be raised to accommodate for the cost of living or increased material costs. An increase in fees can also raise your copay.
5. Dental Problems Can Worsen
Delaying treatment can cost you more in the long run. Over time, a simple cavity can become substantially worse and require more extensive treatment such as a root canal, crown or even extraction.
