Tooth Fairy – Please Stop Here
The Tooth Fairy can be an excellent tool for teaching your children about the importance of good oral care habits.
Children are often excited about losing a tooth because they know the Tooth Fairy will be stopping by. Many believe that when a tooth is placed under their pillow as they sleep, the Tooth Fairy will replace it with a gift, note or money. This ritual is fun for all ages, but it also creates an opportunity to reinforce good oral hygiene habits.
In honor of National Tooth Fairy Day, here are a few ideas the Tooth Fairy can do to help encourage good oral health for your child.
Gifts
Give your child a few mouth-friendly and kid-approved gifts to celebrate Tooth Fairy day. Some suggestions are a toothbrush with a favorite character, sugar-free cavity fighting lollipops, or a new toothpaste with a fun flavor.
Notes
Who says the Tooth Fairy only comes after losing a tooth? A special surprise now and then is a great way to encourage good oral care. You could leave a note of encouragement when a child has a loose tooth, you could share a joke, or give them a reminder to stay on track with their oral care routine. She can also point out improvements she has seen since her last visit. The Tooth Fairy might also mention that she leaves extra special presents for very clean and well cared for teeth.
Charts
Create a brushing and flossing chart to help make daily oral hygiene a routine. Add special stickers to mark off each day’s accomplishments. (Visit our social media sites to find ideas.)
Read a Book
There are many great books featuring the Tooth Fairy that teach about good oral hygiene in a fun way. Visit your local library, check out books from your school or do a quick search on the internet. You could also print out Tooth Fairy coloring pages for after story time. (Visit our social media sites to find ideas.)
Children usually start losing their teeth around the age of 6, but it is never too early to introduce the Tooth Fairy and instill good oral habits as soon as your child is old enough to brush their own teeth.
We hope the Tooth Fairy can be a fun experience for you and your child. It’s an opportunity to celebrate their healthy smiles, encourage good oral hygiene, and connect with them as they grow.
