What Does the Color Code on Toothpaste Tubes Mean?
You may have noticed an alert circulating the internet warning you that the square color marks on your tube of toothpaste are codes to identify the composition of the toothpaste.
Are the ingredients “natural” or “chemical” based?
Green = natural
Red = natural with chemicals
Black = all chemical.
As it turns out, this claim is false.
The marks on your toothpaste bottles are called eye marks, or color marks. An eye mark is a printed rectangular mark most often found along the edge of an item and is identified by an electric eye. This mark identifies where the package should be cut.
The best way to determine the composition of a given brand of toothpaste is by reading the ingredients information printed on the toothpaste box and/or tube.
