Is Brushing At Night Really Necessary?

It’s the end of a long day and all you can think about is climbing into bed.  In your rush to hit the pillow, you forget to brush your teeth.  So, how bad is it if you don’t brush those pearly whites at night?

    The simple answer: Bad News.

The American Dental Association recommends brushing twice a day, once in the morning and once at night before bed.  Each session of brushing you miss encourages the growth of bacteria which can lead to plaque, cavities and gum disease.

Have you ever run your tongue across your teeth right along the gum line and felt something sticky or fuzzy?  That’s plaque.

Thankfully, brushing disrupts the bacteria causing plaque so it doesn’t stay in place.  The longer plaque remains on your teeth, the more likely it is to become tartar which can lead to bigger problems.  You can start the process of a cavity by not brushing just once and if your occasional forgetfulness is a bit more frequent, you are at much greater risk.

Don’t forget to reach for that toothbrush right before bed.  Two minutes, twice a day will make such a difference in keeping your beautiful smile happy and healthy!
