    Summer Reading Programs

School is coming to an end for most children.  With that comes the anticipation of lazy mornings and days filled with swimming, bike riding, and adventures with friends.  It also means extra free time, video games and late nights of watching movies or playing under the stars.  In the midst of all of these childhood memories in the making, don’t forget to encourage your children to read.  Books can inspire the imagination!

To help jump start your reading this summer, check out a few of the FREE reading programs in our area or share your favorites with us too!

Sacramento Public Library has many great opportunities such as lunch at the library, summer reading programs and read to rover.

Barnes and Noble offer a fun reading program for children grades 1-6.  Read and record 8 books in a journal and return it for a FREE book.  There are also links to book suggestions by age.

Scholastic Books is another great option for summer reading.  Over the course of 18 weeks, kids can enter their summer reading minutes online, unlocking digital rewards as they complete weekly reading challenges; and access book excerpts, videos, and other summer-exclusive content.

Chuck E Cheese’s Reading Reward Calendar allows you to track the number of days you read and turn it in for free tokens.
