Men’s Health Week
When it comes to oral health, women score better than men.
Women are more likely to visit the dentist regularly for cleanings and exams, according to the American Dental Association. Compared to women, men have a higher tendency to avoid the dentist for years at a time.
Regular cleanings and exams can reduce the chance of cavities and gum disease and catch any issues early on. That may be whey men are more likely to have untreated tooth decay.
When women do have dental problems, they’re more likely to follow their dentist’s recommended treatment plan.
Statistics from the American Dental Association (among those 35-44 years old):
Brush Every Day
Men: 20.5%
Women: 28.7%
Brush Twice A Day
Men: 49%
Women: 57%
Untreated Tooth Decay
Men: 29%
Women: 25%
So how do we help fight the statistics?
The best way is to know and regularly practice good oral hygiene habits.
- Brush twice daily
- Floss every day
- Use toothpaste with fluoride
- Visit your dentist at least twice a year
- Follow a healthy diet
