Health Tip – Choose What You Chew
It may seem small and harmless, but chewing on a pencil or pen can do some serious damage to your mouth and may also have risky health implications, too.
Chewing on pencils can increase your risk for germs that cause illness as well as increasing your risk of spreading germs to others if you share writing utensils.
Plus, this little habit could have big consequences for your beautiful smile as it puts you at risk for cracked or broken teeth and brackets (if you wear braces). Oftentimes, those who chew on pencils or pens will suffer the same oral health consequences as someone who clenches or grinds their teeth.
Try popping a piece of sugar-free gum into your mouth the next time you go to chew on your pencil. Your smile will thank you!
