• For a child, losing a tooth is magical.  Not only is there the excitement of starting to grow up, but the whimsical allure of the tooth fairy makes it even more enchanting.  If you are new to visits from the tooth fairy, or are a tried and true expert, here are a few ideas to help keep the magic alive when those baby teeth start to become a little wiggly.

    • Tooth Fairy Pillow, Box or Container.  It takes a skilled set of hands to fish around under the pillow for a teeny tiny tooth.  Thankfully there are plenty of options for a tooth fairy pillow, box or other container.  Whether you create your own or find one already made, it is bound to keep the little tooth safe as well as be a fun part of your family’s tooth fairy traditions.  Some families opt to leave their special container on a dresser, bathroom counter or kitchen counter to make it easier for the tooth fairy to find!

    • Fairy Footsteps.  For those of you who enjoy a little sparkle in your life, this is a fun little trick.  Simply dip a doll’s shoe (or foot) into a little glitter to create a trail of magic fairy-sized footprints on the windowsill or nightstand.

    • Tiny Notes.  One way to keep the tooth fairy magic alive is to leave a tiny note behind thanking your child for their tooth.  This is a great time to commend them on their excellent oral care or perhaps remind them on the importance of good brushing.

    • Gold Coins, Glitter Money and Tooth Fairy Receipts.  Thanks to The United States Mint, gold coins are readily available through most banks.  Add a little glitter to a $5 bill for a bonus on the first tooth lost, and a personalized receipt and you will be all set!

    • Moments Instead of Money.  Consider giving your child a special moment with mom or day instead of money.  Tickets to the zoo or a certificate to their favorite restaurant could create memories that make losing a tooth even more special.

    • Books About the Tooth Fairy.  What does she do with all those teeth?  How will she get into my bedroom?  For the kids who can’t stop asking questions, reading a children’s book will help answer all of their questions – and then some.  You can find a list of favorite Tooth Fairy Books from Delta Dental here.
