Are You Worried About the Coronavirus?
What You Need To Know
SYMPTOMS
Symptoms, including fever (not always present), cough and shortness of breath, develop within 2 days to 2 weeks after exposure. If you have these symptoms and traveled to China in the past few weeks, or were exposed to someone who was there or has the virus, contact your healthcare provider right away.
HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF
- Wash your hands thoroughly and often! Hand sanitizer DOES NOT protect against viruses such as the flu or coronavirus.
- Avoid people who are sick.
- Cough into your arm or elbow – NOT YOUR HANDS! Teach your children to do the same.
- Clean and disinfect household objects and surfaces.
- Avoid traveling to areas where coronavirus is spreading.
KEEP IN MIND
- The risk of contracting this virus in the United States is still relatively low, although that may evolve over time.
- The virus has sickened thousands and led to multiple deaths.
- Most at risk for severe symptoms are people over age of 60 and those with other health conditions, such as diabetes, high blood pressure or lung infections.
