National Fruit and Vegetable Month
As the peak season for many early garden crops find their way into markets, it’s an excellent time to take advantage of these freshly picked fruits and vegetables. They are delicious, colorful, versatile, convenient, affordable and fun.
Some of the best foods for strong teeth and healthy gums are fresh fruits and vegetables because of their nutritional and mouth healthy benefits. Crisp fruits and raw vegetables, like apples, carrots and celery, help clean plaque from teeth and freshen breath. Many fruits and vegetables contain lots of antioxidant vitamins such as vitamin C, that help protect gums and other tissues from cell damage and bacterial infections. Leafy salad greens contain lots of folic acid, a member of the B vitamin family, which promotes a healthy mouth and supports cell growth throughout the entire body.
During the month of June and all year long, take time to explore your grocery store, visit a farmers market or even a local fruit and vegetable farm; colorful, delicious and nutritious foods keep our bodies and minds healthier, longer.
