Summertime Treats to Beat the Heat
Are you looking for a quick way to beat the summer heat? Here are some healthy everyday summer snack ideas that will keep you cool all summer long and keep your mouth healthy too!
Fruit Water. Not only is it a healthy alternative to juice, soda and other sugary drinks, it is refreshing too!
Frozen Grapes. When this fresh fruit is frozen, it becomes a delicious treat. They are great to have on hand after a hot day at the pool, or to take along in a cooler during an outing.
Fresh Berries. Not only are fresh berries loaded with vitamins, they’re also fun to pick! Consider taking a family outing to a local berry farm where you can gather bunches at a time and enjoy together. If you have less time, try a local farmer’s market or grocery store.
Frozen Yogurt Tubes. Kids love yogurt! Parents love it too because it is loaded with calcium, which is good for your teeth and bones. Putting tubes of yogurt in the freezer makes a treat that’s just about as tasty as ice cream, and a lot less messy.
Fresh Fruit Pops. Store-bought popsicles can seem like a healthy treat but are actually loaded with unneeded sugars. Create your own fresh fruit pops as a great alternative that won’t leave you feeling guilty. The great thing is you can pick whatever fruit you want! All you do is fill a popsicle tray with your fruit of choice (kiwi, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries or oranges), and then fill with a liquid. You might try coconut water or even almond or cashew milk.
Grilled Pineapple. Grilled fruit is always a great option in the summertime! Try grilling some fresh pineapple slices for 5-10 minutes, and then drizzle with a mixture of honey and cinnamon.
Strawberry Banana Cream Pops. With these tasty little treats, you won’t be able to tell the difference between this and strawberry cheesecake. Simply carve out the middle of a strawberry and fill with a mixture of smashed banana and greek yogurt. Top with a sprinkling of sliced almonds.
Homemade Ice Cream. There are a million ways to make delicious homemade ice cream, but have you ever tried blending up frozen bananas, then adding a splash of vanilla extract and milk. You will never know it isn’t loaded with sugar and it only takes minutes to make! You might also try adding a scoop of peanut butter to make a peanut butter banana ice cream.
