Chemicals in Plastics Could Harm Children’s Teeth

Chemicals commonly found in plastics and fungicides could be harming the teeth of your children.  This happens when the chemical disrupts hormones that promote growth of dental enamel, also known as endocrine disruptors.  BPA (Bisphenol A) is one of the most prevalent endocrine disruptor and can be found in everyday items such as refillable drink bottles and food storage containers.

Recent research on rats has shown that endocrine disruptors changed the mineralization of tooth enamel and weaken the teeth.

A special warning was given to pregnant women as well:

“Tooth enamel starts in the third trimester of pregnancy and ends around the age of 5, so minimizing exposure to endocrine disruptors at this stage in life as a precautionary measure would be one way of reducing the risk of enamel weakening.” – Katie Jedeon.
